Broom Hall
Tea & a little music

Afternoon tea took off in the 1840s, for the upper and middle classes dinner at eight meant a long time without food after lunch - it soon became a social opportunity for families to visit each other and chat over tea and small sandwiches. The occasion may have involved 'a little music', the impromptu playing of waltzes or polkas at the piano, and singing in the drawing room.
