The Journey
Niagara Falls
Monday, 11th June, 1848
I am told that many people are disappointed with the view of the Falls, but I think it must be when they spend only a short time there, take a passing glance, say they are not as high as they expected, & go on their way. I spent two entire days at Niagara, & was very much delighted. I looked at the Cataract from all possible points, above & below. Crept behind the sheet of water, & got my certificate. Steamed up to the front of the fall, until the boat was enveloped in the spray. I also visited the whirlpool - & crossed by the new wire cable in a basket.
